Hi
I have such problem:
after the click of the article appears the error:
Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference in /users/www/wp-content/themes/newsbie/functions.php on line 481
To ask for the help
Hai Ramzi. Can you please tell me what version of WordPress you’re using on that website?
I tested on WordPrees 2.8.4 and on WordPrees 2.7
In every from the version appears the same the error about which I wrote ….
Hai. I don’t see any error on my side. I also tested it on 2.7+ and 2.8+. Did you edit anything on the function.php or comments.php? Please try download and upload the theme again. If you don’t mind, please let me know the url of your site and plugins you’re using on it. You can email me the info using the contact form above if you don’t want to disclose the info on the comment thread. Thanks.
I can’t get the featured posts thing to work?!?! Thanks! How can I get it to work?
Hai, Christian. First of all, you have to activate it on the theme option. Please go to wp-admin > appearance > theme options > smooth gallery settings, setup and save it.
Also, some plugins might cause the featured slider not working properly. Try disabling plugin one by one to see which causing the problem.
Please try it out and let me know the result. Thanks.
Here, I added my site this time where my name is.. I tried to disable my plugins but it doesn’t work..
Thanks.
I believe the smooth gallery is conflicting with the nextgen gallery plugin. Try disabling your nextgen plugin.
You can also disable the embed link on the featured slider by opening the featured.php, look for the startgallery function, edit the variable to:
showArrows: false,
showCarousel: false,
embedLinks: false
and delete this line:
[a href=”#” title=”open image” class=”open”][/a]
Please try it out and let me know the result.
I changed them to false.. Now I see the picture just not full size..
I didn’t edit the: <a href="” title=””>
What would I take out there?
If you want to manually use bigger image for the post, please use the custom fields feature.
Go to the post edit panel, look for custom fields > add new, put “feat-img” (without the quote) in the Name value and the url of your big image on Value box, click add custom field to update it.
You can safely delete the line:
[a href=”#” title=”open image” class=”open”][/a]
on the featured.php, it only necessary if you use embedLinks: true on the variable.
Please try it out and let me know the result.
I did the “feat-img” that worked pretty good..
I forgot to delete that line, I’ll see if I can do that..
Another couple questions.. I was just wondering if I can make those 468×60 banners only show on the post, not the homepage..
Also, I was wondering if I could put a 728 x 90 banner on the top right.. On the header..
Thanks! Christian
I’ve sent you an email regarding this question. Please check.
Hello Ronald
am using another one of your amazing themes-love it. I’d like to either remove the sponsored advert section or move it to the bottom instead of having it in the middle of the right widget section- is that possible – i see the array code in the function.php but not sure which part to delete or move.
the tabber widget is amazing – in tabber widget 2 – i have archive and calender – i had archive first and the tab said archive and all was good – then i added calender to tabber widget 2 and the archivetab stayed fine but the calender tab reads %nbsp;
thanks
Hai Searchguru, if you want to remove the 125×125 advertisement box, please open the sidebar.php and look for the following php include:
[?php include (TEMPLATEPATH . ‘/sponsor.php’); ?]
You can safely delete it if you don’t need it.
Regarding the calendar tab widget, you have to enter a title for the calendar in the widget panel.
Please let me know if you have any problem using this theme again. Thanks.
thank you so much – advert removal worked
calendar – haha – sorry about that – didn’t notice that – title added
I have to say that i have wasted more time trying to tweek other templates that I have liked and usually not a lot of response to questions for newbies like me – your templates I really luv and you answer all the questions (even those that aren’t your template related) so i really appreciate it.
regards
Ronald,
I am having the same problem as Ramzi referenced above. Could you please email me at cstephens85 (AT) gmail.com to discuss? Thanks in advance.
-Chris
It seems the problem only occurred when I tested it on WordPress 2.6. It worked fine on 2.7+ and 2.8+. Alternatively, please try out this method:
Open the functions.php and delete the function list_pings and function comment_count code.
HI, thnak you, it’s so beautiful, 🙂
How can I change Thumbs img?
thank’s
Hai. You can use custom field ‘feat-img’ or if you want to replace the default thumb, replace the images/100×100.jpg with yours, rename it the same too.
Hi,
I’ve installed the theme, but when I activate the featured slide and featured category widgets, they do not show up. The titles for the featured category shows up, but none of the actual posts or post titles. Any help?
Hai. Please make sure you have chosen the category and the number of post to show correctly and save it. Also, make sure to have more than 1 post on the category you’ve chosen to feature. Thanks.
Hi, thanks for the quick reply! 🙂
Yeah, I have lots of posts in these categories, and i’ve selected for 5 to show up on each, and I tried changing it to 3, but nothings still showing up.
I’m running wordpress 3.0 if that could be the problem? I’d love to use this theme though, it’s perfect for what I want 🙂
Hai. Would you mind emailing me (refer to contact us above) and let me know your website url using this theme so that I can look at it. Thanks.
i’m a chinese user,i like this theme so much
