5 Tips if You’re New to the Gym
You’ve finally got your bunion fixed at The Bunion Cure. Now, you’re ready to start taking your fitness seriously, considering you can move more freely.
Here are 5 tips if you’re new to the gym to help get you started!
Don’t Be Shy
Even if you consider yourself to be an introvert, it’s important that you engage with your gym community. This starts at the front desk. You want to ensure you take advantage of the free tours most gyms offer. After all, this is a completely new environment for you.
It will also help to motivate you to show up each morning or evening. If you start to develop relationships with people at the gym, you’re more likely to show up even if you’re not feeling it.
Create a Schedule
You want to ensure you create a workout schedule that you can adhere to. Consistency is key when it comes to making gains at the gym. You can set yourself up for success if you create a workout schedule that you can stick to.
It’s okay if you miss a day or two, but you want to try and show up to the gym on the days you told yourself you would. This will require determination at first, but it will turn into a habit overtime. The first few weeks will be the most challenging, but once you make it a lifestyle – you’re set for life!
Be Patient
Patience is paramount when it comes to your new lifestyle. You shouldn’t expect immediate results. Change takes time and effort, and you want always to keep this in the back of your mind. If you’re expecting quick results, you’ll be disappointed.
You could keep progress pictures if you want to track how you’re doing at the gym. Just be sure to take them once a week or less. Your body will be experiencing a lot of changes, which is usually more noticeable when you look back on where you started.
Do Your Research
If you have no idea where to even begin with working out at the gym, check in with the experts. There is a slew of free online gym tutorials at your disposal. Do some research to get a greater understanding of how to get started with weight training effectively.
Try and steer clear of some “fitness influencers” as they may not offer solid advice. Look for online trainers who are NASM certified, or consider hiring a personal trainer for a few sessions. While personal training can be pricey, once you learn the basics – you are free to work out on your own.
Find What You Like
Most importantly, experiment with your gym workouts. You don’t want to end up dreading going to the gym. If you find something that you enjoy, you are much more likely to stick with it in the long run.
Have fun when it comes to your time spent at the gym. You’re sure to find something that you enjoy!
