Magloss is a magazine style WordPress theme packed with fully customized features. Important Note Regarding The Usage Of Timthumb:
If you never use Timthumb before, please download it HERE and create a folder called ‘scripts’ inside your WordPress installation root folder, then upload the timthumb.php inside the ‘scripts’ folder.
Note: Some hosting may require you to contact them to enable or whitelist your domain on ModSec for Timthumb to work, i.e Hostgator

I receive the following error message after activating theme.

Should I comment that line out, I get a number of other in post errors and neither left nor right sidebars are visible.

Regarding your problem, do your hosting provider has CURL installed? If not, you can disable the feedcount.php by opening your header.php and put comment tag inside feedcount.php include.
Regarding your post and sidebars error, could you try disabling all your plugins and restore sidebar widget to default. Please let me know if it’s working for you. Thanks..

If you want to change the black color background on the featured content box, please open the jd.gallery.v2.css and look for ‘.jdGallery .slideElement’. You can change the css background color there to suit your need.
If you want to change the default ‘Finacial Crisis’ picture when no pics on post detected, just go to the image folder and replace the default.jpg with your desired default pic, just make sure you keep the name and size as same as the default.
If you want to use custom images for the rotating content without the script pulling it automatically, please use custom value ‘featured-images’ on your post.

I did convert the color of background-color: #000 to background-color: FF33FF….but its not working…i want to change all that black bar to the color code that i have provided you above. And i also want to remove the bar where Uncategorized appears..

The black glossy bars are not changeable via css because it’s an image, not color code. You have to redo all the css coding for the black glossy bar if you want to change it color.
As for the removal of the grey top navigation menu, please open the header.php and delete the whole catnav-wrap div id.
I want to rename the black glossy bar images. they aren’t in the magloss image folder or i’m just over looking them..

I have tried so hard to figure this on my own but I am stumped. I downloaded the Magloss Theme and I absolutely love it! But I hope you can help me so I will not have to change themes again. First, I tried to change the default
“financial crisis” image. Per your instructions, I found it in the stylesheet and replaced it with my image but nothing happened
Second, for some strange reason, the “financial crisis” image is spilled over in the Feature Box and partly in the box below it. I am assuming when I do successfully change it to a new image it will do the same? How do I fix this?
Third, very simple one…. the black solid bar dividers… I want to change the color but I dont really know where it is….. I changed the ones that have the black color code to the color code I want but it did not change the bars…… I would really appreciate your help. My blog is launching in two days and it looks a complete mess!!!!!!!!!!
Hai April. Thanks for using Magloss theme. First of all, it looks like the scriptaculous thing is messing up the smoothgallery. You have to disable the scriptaculous javascript in order for the featured slider to work properly.
if you want to change the default “financial crisis” image, please don’t change it via style.css. You can setup your own default featured image when no user image defined by simply open the featured.php, look for this html code:
img src="xx/images/no-image.jpg" class="full" alt="x"Replace it with your own image
img src="your own image url" class="full" alt="x"Regarding the Black solid bar, I'm sorry to say that it is not editable directly because it's an image and not css color styling. You can make your own by replacing the box-left.gif and box-right.gif inside the image directory, just make sure you make it the same width, height, name it the same.

However, I have no idea what a scriptaculous javascript is to fix the slider. I hope it is not too much to ask to explain it to me. I am not a techy but I learn very fast! One of your plugin causes the slider not working. Try deactivate your wp-scriptaculous plugin on wp-admin page.

My Theme is really coming along. I have two issues I am trying to fix. The top black solid bar is moved down a bit, how do I get to move back up? Also, I accidently deleted something that has to do with the slider so it is no longer working. I tried to open up the featured.php folder and repaste the default and start over but I was not able to access it. Is there a way to change it back to default so I can have the slider in the featured content box?

This is a great theme. As soon as I found it, I replaced my previous one with yours. I got everything working, except, I’m not sure just how to add images to my posts via the custom fields. I can add them directly to my post and they show up when I display my post, but while looking at the excerpt the only image seen is the default “financial crisis” image.
Can you give me some guidance on this?

Hai Evan, I’m glad that you like the Magloss theme. Regarding your question, if you want to add your own custom images on post, go to the post edit panel, scroll down to the custom fields area, press on the “Enter new”, simply put “featured-images” on the Name box and your image url on the Value box, then save it by pressing “Add Custom Field” button.

I just want to make sure I have understood you without assuming anything on my part.
When you say “featured-images”, am I to understand that this is the entry I’m to put inside the Name field and for “Value” the url of the image I want the post to use. Is this correct?
Also, am I to understand that this is the process for both regular post as well as “featured” post?
One last thing. If you visit my site you will notice that the “FEATURED CONTENT” section is not displaying the articles it should. Here is what I’ve done so far;
1. Magloss theme options

>>>Choose Your Rotating Featured Content: “Opportunity Of The Century” (This is the Category under which I’ve posted the articles I would like to display via the slider.

Yes. You must use custom field name “featured-images” for both featured content and standard posting.
I’ve checked out your featured content, it rotated your chosen category correctly. All you have to do is setup their background images using the custom field.

I did try this to change the financial crisis default pic but it did not work. I have asked this before but still have not been able to change that default pic?????
Ok. Here’s what you have to do..
1. Go to the theme’s image folder, you’ll see a ‘no-image.jpg’ (the picture of financial crisis) inside it.
2. Now you want to use your own image, i.e april.jpg, just rename your own image to ‘no-image.jpg’ and replace it with the default one.
The size of your own image depends on your screen resolution. You have to resize it accordingly, 800 x 300 px looks fine on my side. Don’t worry, the script will automatically resize it..Please try it out and let me know if you have trouble adjusting it again. Thanks..

Thank you for the fast reply. I did as you said, but the slider just turns blank again. If I change showcarousel and embedlinks back to false, the images and text show up again.
I figured out part of it, I had another gallery plugin activated. I deactivated it and the smooth gallery started working with carousel, but it does not work with embedlinks. The slider does not rotate the image and the title and permalink is not layed n the image. I will leave it up so you can see, thank you.

Hai Jay. If you want to add a 125×125 adsense on it, you’ll have to add the code manually on the php file.
Please open the sidebar-right.php, under the ‘ads-slot’ id, delete the code between the [li]Some Code Here[/li] and paste your adsense code inside it. That’s all.

I have another issues. Thanks first for your help.
1. The featured content is not displayed when I set to my newly created category. If I changed to use category “Uncategorized”, it works fine. When I changed to other categories such as “Credit Card” or “Personal Loan”, nothing was displayed.
2. The “Latest Articles On ??” section having the similar issue. Only post in “Uncategorized” category was displayed but others category getting blank.
I get this javascript error, maybe related.

I find out the problem is because of the blank space between the category name.
The feature content & latest articles section working fine if I changed the title from “Credit Card” to “CreditCard”.
I noticed your demo site is working even though the category name having space, example “Latest Articles On Cell Phones”.

Hai, Kenson. Try using ‘credit-card’ for your category slug. If you’re using ‘creditcard’ as slug, it will not pull the post unless you want to keep your Category Name as ‘CreditCard’. The featured category is pulling the post from database based on the Category Name, so it’s kinda case sensitive with ‘dash’, ‘space’, etc.

i am current on a laptop with a 1440×900 resolution but when i use a computer that is on a smaller resolution the page looks altered. is there a code that would help with this
Hai, Jay. The page looks altered because of the overflow width of banner ads. I tested on a 800×600 resolution, it looks like the banner overflow the sidebar box. But it looks fine on a higher 1024×800 resolution..Actually, you don’t have to worry about low resolution viewing issue as most of people now are using high resolution screen.

I just installed wordpress, and added this theme, and when I try to open homepage, it never open. Thumbtim seems that working fine, but even when I removed all images, it still doesn’t works?

Can the problem be with hosting – hostgator? I am able to run timthumb script, and resize image when I call it directly via url in browser, but not sure if this mean it will works with wordpress too.

I am in the process of switching my website over to the Magloss theme. However, I’m a little thrown off by the TimThumb thing. My thumbnails do not show and nothing shows in the featured content section. I also can’t get the featured videos to show on my homepage either.
Hai LT, thanks for choosing Magloss to be your theme. Regarding your problem, it’s hard for me to tell you the cause of it without seeing your site. Can you setup a wordpress test site on the same server?
Basically, some hosting require your domain to be whitelist for mod security to able to use timthumb. i.e Hostgator. Please make sure your category name and category slug for the featured content is the same. i.e when you category name is ‘Featured Content’, the slug should be ‘featured-content’ because the content slider and featured categories are pulling the database by category name.
As for the video, you just have to change the youtube code a bit. i.e if I want to embed this video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M11SvDtPBhA. I’ll change it to http://www.youtube.com/v/M11SvDtPBhA and paste it into the video box setting and save it.

those suggestions worked. My only issue now is my thumbs do not show on the homepage and neither does the featured content. Thumbs show within the pages though. I have unblocked my site for you to view.

Looks like the timthumb doesn’t work on your site. I can’t even call it via:

It should be showing a “no image specified” page just like mine:

Please contact your hosting provider regarding this matter. I believe they have some mod security enabled on the server. If they wouldn’t allow timthumb usage, I would suggest you to delete the ‘scripts’ folder from your server and the theme will automatically use the default direct img scr without autocrop.
Nevertheless, I noticed that some of your posts are feeds generated posts. Even if the timthumb works on your site, it can’t create a thumbnail from an external source automatically. You have to manually download the image from external source and upload it to your server and use custom fields to call it.
Regarding the featured content slider, you’re using another smoothgallery plugin on your site, that’s why the built-in featured slider doesn’t work. Please disable the plugin and try using the built-in one.
As for the twitter, you have to enter your twitter id on the theme options. Please go to wp-admin>appearance, you’ll see the theme option or magloss option, scroll down to the twitter setting section, enter your twitter id and save it.
Please try it out and let me know if you need more help.
I will check on the smoothgallery because I actually had three different gallery plugins and deleted all but the smooth gallery but maybe the nextgen smooth gallery was the one that was working. Because originally it was working but I just couldn’t get it resized and then when timthumb wouldn’t work I deleted and reinstalled and deleted the deactivated plugins and it hasn’t worked since then.
As far as twitter, I put my ID in, but nothing ever populates into the box.
OK for the most part got everything but the Twitter thing worked out. Now I’ve got to adjust the custom field to read featured-images so they pop in right. The strange thing is I did this yesterday when it was originally working, but the pictures still didn’t pop in. Just showed the no-image jpg.
Hai. I believe you’re using the featured content plugin, I’m not sure what is the custom field name for it. The ‘featured-images’ field name only work for the built-in slider.

To simplify, I just need to add the photo’s to the custom field titled featured-images. Do they need to be a certain size though? I have changed some of the custom field titles to the featured-images, but the only one that shows is the no-image.jpg.
Got pics to show, but now I can’t seem to find the correct css to resize the overlay box.
Hai. By looking at your homepage’s source code. I can see that the HTML code contains the images. All the css for the slider are editable on jd.gallery.v2.css.
There’s known issue with the slider when you use another plugin for the featured content slider. In your case, the next gen smoothgallery is activated on your site, it may cause some problem with the built-in slider because of the jquery conflict between both of them.
so is there no plugin that I need to use with this theme in order to get the slider to work properly? it was working fine this morning, but it stopped working after I posted my first blog of the day. Not only that but my thumbnails for those posts don’t show either.
I think I got it all figured out now. Just wondering why when the page first loads the featured content box spills down the page at first.

I just realized after some research that since I added this theme my stats no longer post. I found this code that I’m so supposed to add to the bottom of the code by the tag. Is this the correct solution or do you suggest something else? I haven’t had stats for 6 days and I’ve been trying to figure out why. I should have had at the very least one hit per day.

Yes. You can add it manually by editing the header.php. There’re header left and header right, you can adjust the width of each section on the style.css.

I am having trouble to understand how to set up Featured blocks categories so they can appear in the bottom 4 categories.
For rotating i have used “featured” category and for blocks different categories but when i add new post it does not appear in those 4 categories but when i use “featured” as a 4 block category then newly added post appears in 4 blocks i do not know what to do?
please can you explain how to setup block categories and why featured category post appears in blocks if you use “featured” but not from others.

It appears the problem is just like before, your category name must match your category slug. i.e when your category name is “Tibetan Food”, the slug should be “tibetan-food”. Please check it out and let me know. Thanks.
How do you correct issues with stats not viewing due to theme?
Yes. You have to add the stat script code manually. Is there any instruction from your stat provider on where to add it? Usually it something like before [/head] or [/body].
In case of before [/head], open the header.php and you’ll see the code there or in case of before [/body], open the footer.php.
How do you remove the number of subscribers from showing at the top?
Hai. Please open the header.php on delete the line containing php include feedcount.php.

I have made some modification so it has more featured catagories displayed and also I add ad slots to the right sidebar .
Something I will make a modification is to place the left side bar so it’s place will be before the content. The sequence of the parts will be: left sidebar, content and right sidebar.
Could you please help me which part at the stylesheet.css or any other files that should be editted?

Hai, to edit the placement of sidebar left. You have to take it off from the #sidebar css and readjust it width percentage accordingly, basically it’s a complicated process because you practically have to recode the sidebar left and sidebar right separately because they are controlled by sidebar container before.
If you insist of editing it, all you have to edit inside the style.css are #content, #sidebar, #sidebarinner(if any), #sidebar-left, #sidebar-right.

I am now using
I activated Featured Content Slider with category ALPHA.
If I post an article and I mark it as category ALPHA then it will be shown up at this Featured Content Slider as Featured News article.
Unfortunately, the article will also be shown in the regular posting at the content of the blog. Thus this article is displayed twice (one at the Featured News and the other is at the regular posting)
Could you please tell me how to avoid the article associated in Featured Content Slide to show up twice at regular posting?

Another thing that I wonder about the Magloss v2 theme; why I cannot see the widget canvas? I am unable to place some newly installed plugins because I can not find sidebar canvas on the widget menu. My site is currently hidden while I update it. I’ve been looking at the Magloss & v2, and I have a couple of questions. The original Magloss, because of the ability to show two columns of featured categories and not having a large ad banner in the header, is probably more suitable for my needs. However, I do have a couple of questions.
How do I disable the Sponsors 125×125 in the sidebar? My primary sponsor’s contract requires that they be “above the fold” and I can’t figure out how to get rid of the 125’s in order to do that. (I know it’s probably simple, but my brain is, um, *challenged* in this area). The other question I have is – is there a way to make the header image “pocket” larger for a larger logo? I know it’s in the stylesheet, but I don’t want to mess with unless I know exactly where it is and how to change it.

Hai, Irene. I assume you’re talking about the Magloss version 1.0 theme and not the Magloss V2. Ok, to disable the 125 ads, please open the sidebar-right.php and delete the div class sidebar box and all the sponsor php code containing inside it.
As for the header size, you can adjust the width between left header and right header by editing its css, please open the style.css and look for:
#header .headleft {
width: 47%;
float: left;
margin: 0px;
padding: 2%;
}
#header .headright {
margin: 0px;
padding: 1%;
float: right;
width: 45%;
text-align: right;
}
* Adjust the width % between both and please take the padding % into count when you’re adjusting them.
One more thing! Is there a way to change -ever so slightly – the relative size of the outside sidebar? If it could be just about 5 pixels larger, then that would make my sponsor ecstatic! and me too! Thanks!
One more! Exactly how *do* I get my logo into the header (css? php?).
Please open the header.php and look for div class headleft, then delete the H1 and p tags inside it and put your logo img html code inside it.
I tried that and ended up with my logo html showing, but not the logo itself. Maybe I deleted too much. I need hand-holding 🙁 .

Hi Robert! I have another “just one more” question! It’s turning out wonderfully, by the way. I’ve used Fireworks to change the images, and have “hex’d” my way through the colors. My logo is displaying (yay!) and the slider is working perfect (it all feels too good to be true!). I can’t wait for you to see the finished product!
The problem I’m having now is finding the background color for the dropdown menu and the text color for the nav bars. I’m using both page and cat bars, so this is very important.

I think I have everything figured out! I even removed the subscriber count, since most of my subscribers subscribe via email through a separate service from Feedburner. My numbers would look pathetic!
Oops. I spoke too soon. It seems that removing the numbers also removes the icon and the rss/email info. I don’t meed the email link, but I would like to keep the feedburner link without the numbers displaying how many subscribers. Thanks for any help.
It’s up and running and now that I’m able to see it on several different systems (using an iMac 21.5 running Safari gives a look of absolute perfection. PC running IE … not so much) I can see where I need to do a little tweaking. For instance, the container holding my logo is completely invisible in Safari and Opera. On Firefox (both systems) and on IE there is a clear border surrounding it. Is there any way that I can eliminate that? I also have a couple of size issues with different plugins etc. on the sidebar, but those can be fixed (I’m at work now and can’t – won’t – work on the site while here).

I have pb with my logo (.png) is not show transparent with IE6 because the background is degraded gris so i can not make my logo with degred gris

hi first you need to upload magloss theme to wp-content/themes and change the theme to used by going to dashboard -> appreance and choose and activate magloss.

yes it is adsense ready. @increase adsense income – it mostly depend on your traffic, the theme adsense placement are optimize for better or best clickthrough.

I wanted to manually add the trackin code to the footer file. However when i went to the footer file, it said if i modify the file, the site will stop working. So how do i manually add the file?
the magloss version 1 did not have any encrypted code so you can edit the footer.
I have downloaded Magloss2 and I love it. It is exactly what I need but I hate the black and gray. Can it be changed? I see you say the black bar can’t be changed but what about the header. I want to keep it the samr as the web page I already have, which is blue. Can that be done?
I am happy to pay for the designer’s version, if it can be fixed like I want it. In the demo, I love the template–except for the dull color.

hi codi, the feedburner api are close and deprecated. you can fixed this by open magloss/feedcount.php and delete the whole code.
OK, I deleted the fedcount.php file as you suggested and not I get this in the header when I pull up the site:-

just delete the code inside feedcount.php not the feedcount.php file. cheers
OK, I reinserted the empty feedcount.php file with not code in it, now the left and right sidbars are one the bottom of everything on the left of the page. The right side of the page is blank.
